Auroville Land Fund
Securing the land for Auroville is not another project
in Auroville. It is the physical foundation, the Body of
Auroville, which is essential for the realization of the
Auroville Township.
Currently the Auroville Land Fund Team focuses on three major areas for land
purchase.
Within The City Area
Auroville still needs to acquire about 200 acres in the
city area. Without these lands, a coherent planning and
construction of the city as envisaged in the Auroville Township
Master
Plan 2000 - 2025 will not be possible.
In the Green Belt
In addition, about 2,000 acres need to be secured in the
Green
Belt, of which 600 acres are urgently needed to consolidate
Auroville's present land holdings in this area.

Along Access Roads
Another extremely critical area is to secure the plots
located along the access roads that run through the Green
Belt to the city. Auroville faces the risk of strip development,
which would leave these roads too narrow for a future township
of 50,000 people. This would also adversely affect the Green
Belt, which plays a crucial role in creating an ecological
balance for the entire bioregion.

An Urgent Need for Funds
Faced with this major challenge, we want to change our
land purchase strategy from a piecemeal approach into a
more comprehensive action. Instead of purchasing land in
these critical zones bit by bit, we intend to bring all
landowners together area-wise and offer them a premium price
provided they are willing to sell their land "in bulk".
