New Creation Bilingual School

An education designed to unfold and reveal what is already present in the children.

The school provides education for 230 children between the ages of 3 and 15. Most of the children come from the large Tamil village of Kuilapalayam near New Creation. The children receive schooling, a mid-day meal and health checks free of cost. The school aims to provide for the healthy physical, emotional and mental growth of young Tamil village children who aspire to a better life.

Although many of the children who attend the school come from happy families, some come to the school as an escape from poverty, hunger, squalor and violence. These children need special care because they come from homes that are not able to provide them with the basic necessities of life.

The New Creation Bilingual School provides a safe learning environment for the Tamil children from the nearby villages.

The teachers at New Creation work to create a stable, nurturing, non-authoritarian atmosphere enabling the children to grow and thrive. The children become better enabled to choose a future beyond the limitations that exist in their village life.

At the New Creation Bilingual School:

  • The youngest children benefit from a new purpose-built kindergarten
  • Class sizes are small: we aim at no more than 20 students per teacher
  • Core subjects are English, Tamil, Science, Mathematics, Social Science and computer technology.
  • Options include tailoring, woodwork, clay modelling, Art, Dance, Music and Swimming.
  • Afternoon sports use the well equipped and staffed New Creation sports ground. Basketball is particularly popular.
  • Pupils have the opportunity to take an entrance exam for admission into standards 10 and 12, giving them access to higher education.
  • Vocational courses for carpenters, tailors, electricians and metal workers are being developed.

We aim to offer a progressive education based upon Aurovilian principles, but we are also conscious that we are teaching Tamil children who will mostly not become Aurovilians. We believe it is our duty to equip these young people for their real future lives in Tamil Nadu.

New Creation fights a daily battle against meagre material resources to fund its activities. We are one of Auroville's Outreach Schools so the Sri Aurobindo International Institute for Educational Research (SAIIER) supports us financially. However, we do rely on donations for many of our running costs. If you would like to make a donation to the school, your money will go a long way in India. For example $1.40 pays for a student’s food for a week, $11 pays for all school supplies for an entire day for all the students, $65 pays a teacher’s salary for a month.
