The Matrimandir & I is a series of short films created by Aurovilian filmmaker Serena Aurora.

The series explores the relationship of the Matrimandir’s sacred space to diverse individuals, from early Auroville pathfinders to recent newcomers and volunteers.

The series started in collaboration with AVI USA.


LIVESTREAM: Auroville Anniversary Dawnfire

FEBRUARY 28

Every year on February 28, the Dawnfire Meditation takes place as the sun rises, celebrating the inauguration of Auroville.  

The bonfire is a traditionally built edifice, lit before dawn. The recording of the Mother reading Auroville Charter, as well as other teachings and her music are played.

It is a time for sacred contemplation and deep connection to Auroville’s spiritual purpose.


Endangered Craft Mela

Feb 19-25, 2023

The Mela is a gathering of local craftsmen and children from the Auroville bio-region schools, including outreach school, after-school programs and children from underserved communities. The children and craftsmen interact creating craft objects and projects which stimulate hands-on ingenuity, and reconnect the children with local cultural traditions.

We celebrated Daniel Brewer’s life with family and friends on December 27/28, 2022.

We reconnect with faraway friends, met Daniel’s family, and reminisced about shared times with Daniel.

The event is also a benefit for Aurokiya Eye Care Center.

Auroville participants: the event was hosted in Unity Pavilion as a group viewing.



Seeds of Unity Festival, Concert Livestream

Krishna McKenzie’s Emergence band, with special guests, Mahesh Vinayakaram, Aman Mahajan, Dhani Muniz and Suresh Bascara held a Livestreamed Holiday Concert.

The concert was part of the Seeds of Unity Festival at Solitude Farm in Auroville, a holiday celebration of food offerings, Vedic fire ceremonies and music.

A benefit for Aurosugan and Aurokiya Eye Care Center. A film viewing about Aurokiya Eye Care and discussion about the center and its goals for the future.

Aurosugan, founder of Aurokiya Eye Care Center, grew up in Auroville. He was inspired by his work at Aravind Eye Hospital to make eye health accessible in Auroville and the bioregion.

Iniyan Film Premiere and Q&A

AVI USA hosted the premiere of Iniyan, a short film based on a legend written by Aurovilian Ruud Lohman, and produced by filmmakers Yatra Srinivassan and Aurelio. The event began with an introduction of the filmmakers, premiere of the film, and a 30-minute discussion with both Yatra Srinivassan and Aurelio.
