The Yoga of Sight: AuroPerfect Vision

The Yoga of Sight: AuroPerfect Vision

Aurosugan, founder of Aurokiya Eye Care, continues to expand his vision of what’s possible in the field of eye health. After connecting with the Sri Aurobindo Ashram’s School for Perfect Eyesight in Pondicherry, he found a natural alignment between their holistic approach and Auroville’s evolving eye care needs. This meeting of minds and methods inspired the creation of Auroville’s AuroPerfect Vision, now based at Bharat Nivas.

We sat down with Aurosugan to learn more about his journey and the path that led to this unique initiative.AuroPerfect Vision.

Aurokiya Eye Care has grown steadily over the past four years. Since its inception in 2021, it has conducted numerous eye screening camps for Auroville and the surrounding villages. These workplace screenings and eye camps have benefited thousands, restoring vision and providing much-needed treatment to those in need.

In the spirit of yoga and holistic health, Aurosugan, Aurokiya’s founder, began exploring the intersection of eye care, holistic wellness, and yoga. These elements were first introduced to him by Dr. Marc Grossman of New York, a regular visitor to Auroville. Dr. Grossman integrates supplements, holistic eye remedies, and acupuncture into his New York-based practice. During his visits to Auroville, he collaborated with Aurosugan, inspiring him to incorporate holistic methods into Aurokiya’s offerings.

At a key moment, Aurosugan came into contact with the Sri Aurobindo Ashram’s School for Perfect Eyesight in Pondicherry. Founded in 1968—the same year as Auroville—this school was established by Dr. R. S. Agarwal under the guidance of The Mother. Dr. Agarwal practiced the Bates Method, an alternative eye therapy based on simple relaxation techniques to naturally rejuvenate the eyes.

The School for Perfect Eyesight has been in continuous operation since its founding, in 1968, and is open to anyone interested in booking treatment sessions. Its week-long programs include both morning and afternoon sessions, featuring eye exercises, palming, candlelight fine-print reading, distant chart reading, and eye massage. At the conclusion of the program, patients are encouraged to integrate these exercises into their daily routine.

Beginning in 2023, after several months of observing and participating in the program, Aurosugan started incorporating elements of it into Aurokiya’s offerings. He began hosting shorter sessions that featured selected techniques, with a particular focus on childhood vision issues, which are increasingly common worldwide. As screen time grows, children benefit from practices that rebalance the eyes through techniques taught in eye yoga and the School for Perfect Vision.

In 2024, eye yoga sessions began at Aurokiya’s treatment space in Arka, quickly gaining popularity among patients. Aurosugan organized half-day workshops and special events to introduce the practice more widely.

In March, through a collaboration with the School for Perfect Eyesight, Aurosugan’s eye yoga initiative was given its own dedicated space at Bharat Nivas, under the new name AuroPerfect Vision. The program is led by Aurosugan and Priyanka, a newcomer volunteer to Auroville who trained at the School for Perfect Vision.

AuroPerfect Vision currently offers group and individual eye yoga sessions in Auroville. It has also launched pilot programs in collaboration with three local schools: the Sederapet Government School, a private school in Koot Road, and a school in Villianur. These month-long programs involve weekly 90-minute sessions designed to teach students how to relax their eye muscles, shift focus, and safely navigate the visual demands of the digital world.

AuroPerfect Vision brings together modern eye care, holistic practices, and yogic techniques to support lasting vision wellness. With growing interest from the community and local schools, the program is helping people of all ages reconnect with their eyes in a mindful, natural way. As digital strain becomes more common, AuroPerfect Vision offers a refreshing approach to seeing clearly—physically, mentally, and spiritually.
