A New Playground at Kulai Creative Center, Auroville
We connected with Selvaraj, the head of Kuilai Creative Center, to find out more about the new KCC playground project
AVI USA: Tell us a little about the role the new playground will have for the children at KCC.
Selvaraj/KCC: When we started our Kuilai Creative Centre in 2014, originally there was nothing in the campus, but later, step by step, we were gradually getting some funds and support, and we started creating a small shed. After some months only, we got the electricity, water, resources, supplies, etc… All were through fundraising efforts only.
At our campus, except the buildings for one classroom and a kitchen, there is no other infrastructure that had been created for the participants and therefore, we envisioned to create some other facility which will benefit the participants. Luckily, through one of our well-wisher and supporter, we were able to fundraise and receive this great support.
The students and the participants will be benefitted through this great facility. Probably, we will work it out on how to incorporate the other AV schools and Outreach organisations, to have an integrated Physical Education facility for all of them.
AVI USA: Tell us more about how the playground will be built, what work has already been done and, finally when do you expect the completed project?
Selvaraj/KCC: We are expecting to complete it by the end of October’24 hopefully. Presently, we are waiting for the building approval from the ATDC which is a very normal procedure here. We hope that we will receive their permission very very sooner hopefully. Nothing has started yet so far. We are planning to have an Outdoor Kids Play Par, with a Slider, Kids Rig, Swing and a Balance Walk.
Proposed kids areas in the new playground
AVI USA: The children do, right now, have smaller play areas. What is the purpose of the playground, what it will include, which children will benefit from it and how?
Selvaraj/KCC: The purpose of creating the playground is to provide a space and opportunity for improving their physical health and skills through various physical exercises and activities individually or through some sessions frequently by one of our well-wisher and supporter who is an Aurovilian too or by any volunteers too. Around 30 of our regular students, and some other participants and students from many different schools and certainly some youngsters and elders also use this facility, and so there’s no age limit.
AVI USA: We know there is one supporter who deeply cares about this project and is one of the main people making it come to life. We would love to include a thank you for the care and support.
Selvaraj/KCC: Many many thanks with deep gratitude and lots of appreciations to our dearest Donor who offered this big donation to create such facility here.
Indeed, it is going to create and bring a very different atmosphere here with many different positive vibrations, because our participants and visitors would love this great facility. Actually it is going to be created next to their doorsteps at one of our AV Bio-Region’s which is called Kuilapalayam. Surely, some other villagers also would love to have or use this facility and the invitation is wide open for everyone. We are very glad that we are going to create such a facility to them.
We are delighted to support KCC and their benefactor, and we hope to visit the playground soon. We did notice there is no age limit 😊
