STEM Land, a sub-unit of SAIIER, is a learning and resource center at two Auroville outreach schools – Udavi School and Isai Ambalam School. The center works on Math and Science education through creating and building, rather than didactic classes. Through this constructivist approach children become responsible for their learning, work with their peers and have created many projects that demonstrate concepts they learn.
STEM Land’s teaching philosophy is in line the broader philosophy of Sri Aurobindo who indicates that nothing can be taught, but the teacher can support and encourage a child in the process of learning, thus guiding them towards perfection. At STEM Land, students are responsible for guiding their own learning journey from start to finish and design their own curriculum.
