Krishna Das Live – from the Matrimandir Amphitheater in Auroville, India

Auroville welcomes the world-renowned mantra artist Krishna Das on February 12th, 2023. Krishna Das offered a live chanting event to kick off the Summit on Science and Spirituality, which will feature scientists and spiritual teachers sharing wisdom about human evolution during times of challenge.

Auroville is a unique experiment in human unity located just north of Puducherry in Tamil Nadu, India. Learn more at auroville.org and aviusa.org/auroville.

Krishna Das developed his love of kirtan in the presence of his guru, Neem Karoli Baba. He spent several years in Kainchi, North India, at his guru’s ashram learning traditional chants including the Hanuman Chalisa in the early 70’s. Since then, Krishna Das has brought the spirit of devotion in his chants to audiences world-wide.

Special Thanks from Krishna Das/AVI USA team

The Krishna Das concert was beautiful, inspiring and heart opening. It was attended by 3000 people, as counted by the check-in staff with clickers. The scope of the audience was evident in the full front of the Amphitheater. 1311 Aurovilians and 1803 outsiders were registered, and out of that total only a little more than 100 were not present. Many young, recently settled Aurovilians who were familiar with Krishna Das and Ram Dass’ teachings were thrilled to witness the event. Older Aurovilians of Krishna Das’ generation, familiar with the 1970’s spiritual landscape outside Auroville were moved to see a representative of their generation join in spiritual practice in Auroville’s spiritual center.

A concert of this scope would not have been possible without months of preparation on all levels.

AVI USA coordinated logistics for the event Our coordinating efforts were made possible by the excellent, highly capable individuals and teams of Auroville, from Visitors Center, Matrimandir and Matrimandir Access, Prisma and AurovilleRadioTV, to all the unique individuals who reached out and lent a hand to this huge effort.
