Visiting the Matrimandir

Visiting the Matrimandir

What is the Matrimandir?

At the heart of Auroville’s Park of Unity stands the Matrimandir, known as the soul of Auroville. It is a place for silent concentration and, in the words of the Mother, Mirra Alfassa, “the living symbol of Auroville’s aspiration for the Divine.”

Its distinctive golden sphere appears to rise from the earth, symbolizing the emergence of a new consciousness.

At its center is the Inner Chamber, a space dedicated to silence and concentration.

Visitors may view the Matrimandir and its surrounding gardens from the Viewing Point or, with advance reservation, visit the Inner Chamber for silent concentration.

There are two ways to visit the Matrimandir: visit the Viewing Point for views of the Matrimandir and its gardens, or reserve a visit to the Inner Chamber for silent concentration.
