The Centre Within:
The Matrimandir and I Feature Film
After several years of filming, listening and editing, Aurora’s Eye Films has completed The Centre Within, a feature documentary growing out of The Matrimandir & I project.
Through the personal voices of Aurovilians, the film explores people’s relationships with the Matrimandir — not simply as an extraordinary building, but as a place of silence, inner reflection, aspiration and connection. Through these intimate stories, the film also opens a wider window onto Auroville and its continuing experiment in human unity.
HELP US BRING THE CENTRE WITHIN TO THE WORLD
We are now at an important new stage: bringing the film out into the world.
The Centre Within is currently being submitted to international film festivals, including Sundance, while we search for the right distribution, sales, educational and impact partners who can help the film reach a much wider audience.
WHO WE’D LOVE TO HEAR FROM
We would love to hear from anyone in the AVI USA and wider Auroville community who has connections with:
We are particularly interested in educational opportunities, as we feel the film could become a beautiful way of introducing conversations about Auroville, the Matrimandir, intentional community, spirituality, human unity and the search for a different way of living together.
A NOTE ON THE SCREENINGS
At the moment we are protecting the film’s world-premiere status while festival submissions are underway, so public screenings need to be carefully coordinated. But we would love to begin conversations now with organisations or individuals who may want to screen, distribute, teach with, represent or otherwise support the film once the festival pathway allows.
Most of all, we are asking our wider community to help us spread the word.
Sometimes one introduction can completely change the journey of an independent documentary.

BRINGING THE CENTER WITHIN TO THE WORLD
Our hope is that The Centre Within can travel far beyond Auroville and share something of the spirit, questions and aspirations behind the Matrimandir with audiences around the world.
As The Centre Within moves into its next stage, we are seeking support to help bring the film to audiences around the world.
Film festival submissions, market fees, travel and attendance at key industry events such as WAVES Film Bazaar, as well as distribution and outreach costs, are becoming a significant part of this journey.
These opportunities are essential for meeting distributors, programmers, broadcasters and partners who can help the film reach far beyond Auroville.
Every contribution, large or small, will directly support the film’s festival and distribution campaign and help us share the story of the Matrimandir and Auroville with a wider international audience.
